Listed below are some FAQs that will help you understand more about the PEMs.
Tip: there will be quizes and prizes given out during the next month as we move forward with our PEM Awareness Campaign. Many of the answers to the quizes can be found in this post! :)
SACS and the QEP
The SACS Commission on Colleges requires each institution to have a Quality Enhancement Plan- a “course of action” that is focused on student learning.

Performance Enhancement Modules (PEM): Turning Knowledge into Performance
What are Performance Enhancement Modules?
Course instructors will design computer-based tutorials for aspects of their courses by dividing complex subject matter into individual learning modules that engage the student in focused learning for some or all topics within a module. Modules will include:
- Pre-assessment – to determine specific learning and/or mentoring needs in a topic area
- A review of course material by topic – presented in PowerPoint and/or streaming video formats to improve comprehension (each module’s subject matter would be broken down into topics allowing the learner to choose specific topics for review and assessment)
- Peer mentor and/or instructor guided learning (tutoring: one-on-one, small group, etc.)
- Peer mentor and/or instructor formative evaluation/feedback
- Post-assessment – to determine whether learning has occurred.
Students may complete modules and related assessments as often as they wish to support their learning.
Why Performance Enhancement Modules?
The primary goal of the QEP is to establish a supportive, supplemental learning environment that provides engaging, creative and effective learning opportunities for students in the doctor of chiropractic program. The focus of the QEP is vital to the long-term improvement of student learning at Sherman College because it will help the college achieve important educational objectives and therefore, enhance overall institutional effectiveness. These objectives include:
1. Improvement of NBCE performance
2. Students taking greater responsibility for learning
3. Improvement in student satisfaction with the program
When does this QEP begin?
The college will seek QEP approval from SACS during their site visit on April 10-12, 2007. Next, the college will conduct a student focus group to obtain feedback on a prototype module. Then the college will introduce available Performance Enhancement Modules in November 2007.

I think this is a superb tool students should take advantage of and it really needs the support of both faculty, staff and students to turn this into real learning tool to enhance learning.- Qtr 7 Sherman College Student
